Day 4: How to blog in 7 days
February 12th, 2008.Feed your blog
It is important to make your blog easily accessible to readers. RSS, RSS aggregators and RSS readers can do this for you (click on this links for a dictionary definition).
You can identify RSS on other blogs by this icon:
A reader can click the icon and subscribes to your RSS feed. This means they will receive your new posts without all the other junk on your blog, like navigation bars, old material, etc. They can also choose to receive your postings by email.
Luckily, including RSS on your blog is a very easy process!
There are a many good free RSS aggregators. One of the most popular is Feeburner.
Simply register and read the easy-to-follow instructions for setting up the feed.
You can choose whether your blog’s RSS feed is simply text, without images, or a full XHTML replica of your posting.
I suggest you keep it simple.
Tempt the subscriber with a short but interesting introduction to encourage them to visit your full blog posting.
Remember, the life of your blog is powered by traffic!
Well done! We are ready to start writing content…
Tomorrow we will look at how to write snappy blog posts.
Until then, think of unusual blog titles!
