Day 5: How to blog in 7 days

February 13th, 2008.

Write snappy blogs

Who is your blog reader?

Is your blog reader a middle-aged housewife in Pennsylvania? Or a young, fellow rebel in the universe?

On Day 1 of blogging, you decided on a blog identity by answering the questions: who are you? And what are you writing about?

Now you need to draw a picture of your blog visitor (and again, stereotypes and stickmen are acceptable).

This drawing should become your imaginary friend. Address all your blogs to him/her.

Keep it short

Unless you are publishing a national secret, guaranteed to fascinate readers, try limiting yourself to a maximum of 250 – 300 words.

Internet readers have notoriously short attention spans!

So…

- Break the blog up into small chunks of information, that are easy to digest.

- Use bulleted lists (if you have to list), images and bold text to indicate important ideas.

- Try to tell your imaginary friend something you imagine they’ve not heard before!

What’s the point?

Put yourself in your friend’s shoes. By the end of the posting, are you wondering: what’s the point?

Decide on one central idea per blog post, and stick to it.

Now, what are you going to blog about?

Coming up with interesting ideas every day can be difficult.

Tomorrow we will look at ways how to get rid of blogging boredom with inspiring ideas.

Until then, I wish you blogging courage!

Love, me

P.S. Take a peak at Day 1: Starting your blog, Day 2: Design your blog, Day 3: Personalise your blog and Day 4: Feed your blog!
